We are living through an institutional crisis. We have 21st-century Agentic Capital (OpenClaw, autonomous loops, local-first inference) operating within an 18th-century Legal Framework . For thirty years, the 'Gold Standard' in facility operations has been the BMS (Building Management System) . It was a breakthrough in its time, allowing us to see temperature, pressure, and power usage on a single screen. But a BMS is fundamentally a Reactive System . It waits for a sensor to hit a threshold, then triggers a pre-set command. It has no 'plan', no understanding of 'cost', and no ability to navigate 'uncertainty'. In Austrian Economics, the Interest Rate is not just a number set by a central bank. According to Eugen von Böhm-Bawerk and Ludwig von Mises, it is the 'Price of Time'. It reflects Time Preference —the degree to which people prefer a good today over a good in the future. But what happens to the interest rate when the 'actor' is an agent that can complete a production cycle in milliseconds? The Compression of the 'Roundabout' Process Mises argued that capitalistic production is "roundabout." We spend time building a tool (higher-order good) so that we can produce more efficiently later. For the past month, I’ve been running a pilot program at a mid-scale industrial facility, integrating a customized OpenClaw stack with the existing Building Management System (BMS).
